If you have acne, you’ve probably tried all the over-the-counter products and maybe even the prescription products on the market. Perhaps they don’t work for you or they irritate your skin and dry it out. There are other options. Herbal treatments and nutritional supplements can also help with acne, either applied directly to the skin or taken orally.
There are many products on the market for acne, but not everyone responds to the same products. Most of the commercial acne treatment products contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, which can dry out and cause redness and irritation to sensitive skin.
There are many herbal products that can be used topically or taken internally to help with acne. Maca can help, especially if your acne is caused by hormonal imbalance. Maca can help normalize hormones. Maca is a root vegetable and it is available in powdered form and in capsules. The recommended dose is 3 capsules per day. Maca should not be taken with thyroid medications or with thyroxin.
Neem is another very good product for relieving acne. Neem is available in tablet form, in creams and as soap. Neem has antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties.
Tea tree oil has antibiotic and antibacterial properties and has a drying effect on the skin. You can use the oil directly on the pimples. There are also many commercial creams and products now made with tea tree oil and supplements you can take internally to help clear up your acne.
