Color Me Casual
Are you in a mood to make your apartment as casual, relaxed and
comfortable as can be? Home is where you are supposed to feel warm,
comfortable and as homey as possible. Make your apartment a place you
want to be by finding ways to turn a stiff, formal looking room into a
casual room with a warm atmosphere.
What Makes a Casual Room, Well Casual?
What makes a casual room is the first question you should be asking
yourself. A casual room (or caz as it is sometimes called for short) is
made up of simple details, soft upholstery, horizontal lines as opposed
to vertical lines that are restful and inviting, textured elements that
can be seen in both the fabrics you choose as well as your accessories
and surfaces that are low-luster. Casual rooms are ones that have
furniture arranged so as to avoid any type of perfect symmetry. Perfect
symmetry after all is a sign of a formal room and not a casual room.
Simple and Basic
Keep all details in a casual room as basic and as simple as possible and
make sure your furniture and all of your elements are either softly
curved or rectangular. Both speak of casual in a relaxed and warm
fashion. A caz room is a perfect place for some pieces of your family
history or something whimsical such as wooden candlesticks, old luggage
or toss cushions that were once your grandmother’s.
Slipcovers and Fabric
Always make sure that your room is soft, warm, comfortable and as
inviting to you as it is to everyone else. Slipcovers on a couch and
chairs suit a caz room. Look for fabrics that are textured and come in
the materials cotton, linen and wool. Upholstered pieces look especially
homey when they include buttons, pleats, cording, ribbons and ruffles.
Color Me Casual
Color is an important element of a casual room. Neutral colors such as
beige, off-white and tan have that warm, earthy look while soft pastels
give off a calm and soothing feeling that speaks of serenity. Contrast
your neutral colors with some darker hues such as forest green, navy,
wine, olive, cranberry and rust.
Regardless of whether the rooms of your apartment are decorated in
Shabby Chic, French Country, cottage, rustic or a décor of your own
making, casual decorating ideas can still be incorporated into them. Try
it and find out!
