V & V- Visit and Visualize Your Way to a New Look for Your Home! (And Put an End to Decorator’s Block)-

Decorator's BlockDo you ever find yourself running out of ideas for redecorating or revamping your apartment? Just like a type of writer’s block, decorator’s block can be a dismal state of mind and it can strike any time of the year. No season is exempt when it comes to the dreaded decorator’s block. You make efforts but it just doesn’t seem to come together. You move an end table here or move a lamp there or push the chair further to the left or right but to no avail. You end up not being satisfied with the result.

No matter which room you want to modify, it is not a pleasant state of affairs when it falls short of your expectations. One suggestion to encourage your creative decorating juices is to flip through as many decorating magazines as possible to get ideas. Remember that you do not have to simply copy an entire room from a magazine and make it your own but you can instead pick and choose what appeals to you.

What if magazines are not working their decorating magic for you?

If decorating magazines are not where it is at for you at the present time then try doing something a little more wild and crazy- try V & V. What is V & V you ask? It is simple really- V & V stands for visit and visualize. Visit other people’s homes or home decorating shows to get some new innovative ideas for your apartment. Nothing gets the creative juices flowing and the brain paying attention like seeing something with your own eyes. Ask others for suggestions on what they do when it is time for a refreshing change to their apartment décor and listen carefully to what they tell you. Take notes if necessary.

Once you have some new ideas, whether it is a change of color scheme, a new piece of furniture or some new curtains you want, walk into your home with a fresh pair of eyes and take a discriminating look around. Stand in the middle of a room and revisit the scene you have just come from and then visualize how what you saw would look in your home. Are you seeing it? This will be easier for creative types to do than non-creative types but go ahead and give it your best shot! If your visualization abilities are not on target immediately then do not despair- leave the project for a day or two and when you are in a different frame of mind, try it again.

Don’t get yourself down about drab décor in your apartment, but instead V & V and you never know- you might end up surprising yourself with some brilliant decorating ideas!
