Spiced Apple Butter
What could be better than a thick slab of homemade bread spread
thickly with warm apple butter? Nothing says fall better than that! Why
not make your own apple butter? It's a little bit more time consuming
than many canning projects but worth every minute. We are sure you will
agree as soon as you take the first bite of your home canned apple
butter recipe.
- 6 apples, sliced
- 1 cup apple cider
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp ground allspice
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
Place apples and cider in pot over medium heat. Cook, stirring
frequently, until mixture comes to a boil. Lower heat and simmer,
stirring frequently, for about 1/2 hour. Stir in spices.
Continue simmering and stirring for another 1/2 hour, or until apple slices have
disintegrated and butter is thick. Remove from heat.
You can use your crockpot to simmer the apple butter in - just leave the lid of
on a low setting.
Using a wide mouthed, stainless steel funnel, fill hot into sterile half-pint or
pint jars, leaving 1/4 inch headspace or
transfer to 4 1-cup containers, and store in fridge.

10 minutes - 1,001-6,000 ft
15 minutes - Above 6,000 ft.
