I always remember the smell of the house during the holidays. My mom
would make candy, bread and a variety of other things. She did it all
year long but during Thanksgiving and Christmas, she baked furiously. My
dad was the one who made breakfast almost exclusively. They took turns
making lunch and dinner. My dad loved to come up with new ideas to get
my brother and I to eat. My mom always allowed us to help her decorate
cookies, eat the leftover batter or spread icing on the cake. I kept
those early lessons in my head and when I went on into the world, I was
able to take something. Now, it was my turn to pass on that love of
cooking to my own children.
