    How to Stop Puppy Biting

    By: Carina MacDonald

Puppy biting is a natural part of development.. They bite because it's fun, it's a natural way for puppies to play and it's one of several ways a baby dog explores her world. If you have one that doesn't bite, I'd worry because this isn't normal. Puppies biting people is something everyone has to deal with, but it's not that difficult to train them to stop.

An important rule to remember: Never let your puppy do anything now that you don't want her doing when she's an adult. It's no fair changing the rules on a dog. It might be cute that she plays tug with your socks or play-bites your hand. It won't be cute in six months, no matter what size dog she is.

Another rule: Your pup must learn now that she is never to put teeth on human skin for any reason. Be consistent! Dogs don't understand "sometimes it's okay" or "you can do this with me, but not with guests." Make sure everyone she meets follows your rules.

Sometimes people will say, "I don't mind that she does that." Tell them you mind, and they can help you teach her to stop biting.

    Praise for desired behavior
So you have a landshark puppy. She play-bites, and when she starts teething she will need chew toys to loosen baby teeth. Tell her she is wonderful every time she takes a toy from you without attempting to remove half your fingers in the process.
