A Welcome from Sharon Welcome to the freelance writing topic. I
believe that writers can be made as well as born and it's my mission to
help you achieve success in freelance writing. To do this I'll be
writing articles on markets for freelance writers, giving tips on how to
manage a freelance writing career and providing advice on developing
writing skills. This is not just pie in the sky. With a young child at
home, a couple of years ago I decided the best way to balance my life
and work was to freelance – and that's just what I did, drawing on 20
years' experience of writing and journalism. I believe anyone can do the
same. In the last year, I've advised several people on how to jump start
their freelance writing careers – and many of them have given up their
day jobs and are now getting paid to write. I love to swap tips with
other writers – and I look forward to getting to know you. Sharon's
Bio Sharon Hurley Hall is a freelance writer, editor and lecturer
who has worked in writing and journalism for 20 years. She now happily
combines her writing career with life as a work at home mother. Sharon
is a nomad who has lived in England, France and the Caribbean.
Sharon started out as a reporter and ended up editing a national
magazine. With that experience under her belt, she decided to pass on
the skills she had learned to a new generation and began teaching
journalism at a local university, picking up postgraduate qualifications
in media and teaching along the way. Her courses focused on the skills
people really need to achieve success as journalists and writers and
many of her former students now have successful careers in the media.
After the birth of her daughter, Sharon decided to work entirely from
home and is now a successful ghostwriter and web content writer. Along
the way, she has developed expertise in a wide range of subjects. Sharon
specializes in writing about writing, but has also written consumer
finance, blogging, promotion, online business, parenting and much more.
She has written informational articles, sales and marketing copy, blogs,
e-books, children's stories, short stories and poetry and has designed
books and magazines. Sharon publishes a freelance writing advice blog
and a creative writing blog, as well as several others. She is the
freelance writing topic editor for Inspired Author and has updated the
Self Publishing site for Lifetips. She has two courses in development –
a course on journalism for Thomson Education and a course on promotion
for Writers Online Courses. She has published an e-book entitled SEO
Tricks, which describes how writers can promote themselves for free. She
is currently working on an e-book on freelance writing. Links To
