Sage
Sage Characteristics:
Common sage is a semi-hardy perennial that grows to 2
feet high, depending on variety and has purplish blue flowers. Numerous
varieties include broad leaf, clary, and pineapple.
Raising Sage:
Sage grows easily from seed. Start indoors three to
four weeks before planting. Sage likes full sun and well drained
soil, though it will tolerate poor soil if you allow it to dry between
waterings.
If cared for properly sage can live about five years.
Harvesting Sage:
During the growing season, singular leaves can be
picked straight from the plant after it has reached eight inches. At the
end of the season, cut off the whole stem and dry.
