Tupperware – Direct Sales

Tupperware is not a new name to most of us.  Many of us grew up watching our mothers use the products, finding them in our school lunches, and even seeing our dads use them for tools or paperwork.  Tupperware is a network marketing company that made its product debut in 1946.  Earl Tupper manufactured plastics that were dedicated to the war effort, but the convenience and usefulness of his products contributed to the plastics revolution of the 1950s.  When Tupper put his renowned airtight seals on the market, they didn’t sell well because consumers didn’t always understand how they worked.  In 1948, the first Tupperware home party was held, demonstrating the products and making them available for sale.  By 1951, the home parties were working so well that Tupperware was taken of store shelves permanently.

Today Tupperware products can be found in homes, classrooms and offices all over the world, and the company claims that world wide, there is a Tupperware party starting every two seconds.  Tupperware is sold in more than 100 countries and boasts nearly one million independent sales representatives.

Tupperware Ideal Direct Sales Candidate

A direct sales career with Tupperware is perfect for anyone wanting to work part-time, full-time, or simply to have the flexibility to choose from week to week.  Tupperware consultants include stay-at-home-moms, teachers, doctors, lawyers, or anyone else who believes in the product.

Tupperware Direct Sales Premise

The premise behind Tupperware success is for independent consultants to arrange parties where interested consumers gather to see a Tupperware demonstration.  In groups of usually six or more, the party-goers can try out all the sample products, look through catalogs, and ask questions.  Many times the consultant will bring not only sample products, but his or her own ideas about how to use Tupperware. Tupperware parties can be held any time of day, and the consultant rarely has to convince anyone to buy the product; the name, Tupperware, speaks for itself.

Initial Cost and Commitment Needed to Start

An individual interested in working for Tupperware as an independent consultant should contact a local Tupperware representative.  There is no start up fee or overhead, and the company provides free training.  The initial commitment involves booking either four or six parties in a two-week period.  This is where much of the training will take place, as the local consultant guides the new consultant through the party process.  The parties during the two-week period will earn the new consultant the Tupperware starter kit, which includes enough material and information to begin having parties, selling, and most importantly, making money.

Profit Involved and Expected Earnings

Tupperware independent representatives have complete flexibility in how much they want to work and how much money they want to earn.  Many representatives claim to be able to make $1000 per month with only a 4-6 hour commitment each week.  Tupperware offers not only profit from personal sales, but also rewards for recruiting new representatives, as well as rewards for sales challenges.

Pros and Cons

Every company has its pros and cons, but at Tupperware, the pros outweigh the cons.  As aforementioned, the Tupperware name sells itself.  Rare is the person who has not heard of Tupperware or does not know it is a reliable and very handy product.  Tupperware has stood the test of time and everyone can use it, even a child.  Yet direct sales can be hard work.  The first few parties might be easy, as friends and family members willingly act as hosts.  The trick is to continue networking and meeting new people to have new parties and to try to recruit them to sell Tupperware products as well.

Direct sales companies such as Tupperware, also known as network marketing organizations, succeed by recruiting sales people, and in turn having those sales people recruit others, in order to sell more products.  This type of selling should not be confused with illegal pyramids; direct sales businesses are legal, successful, and represent some of the largest marketing organizations.  Tupperware is one of the world’s top direct sales companies and its stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
