Construction Birthday Party
If you have a child that loves construction equipment, he
will love this party idea. The complete party could probably be
planned with a visit to your local home superstore, just remember to pack
your imagination.
Table
For the table cloth cover the table with any black tablecloth-a tarp,
a plastic picnic table covering or paper tablecloth that you can
find at a party store. Tape yellow strips all the way up the center
of the table to simulate a highway. Place two red cones in the center as a
centerpiece. (The cake can go between them)
Table Settings
If you can't find Construction
Theme Partyware at a local party store buy
yellow, red and black accessories. (Stick mainly to yellow and
black) Use yellow plates, with black forks and red napkins or any
combination.
Decorations
Use yellow construction tape "Do Not Cross" found at any
local home warehouse instead of streamers. Drape it from the ceiling
and room corners in the same manner as you would a streamer.
Instead of balloons hang construction safety flags about the
room-"Men working" "Caution" etc. If you can't find
the silk flags, make your own with construction paper.
Party Favors
Plastic toy construction hats can be used for party hats.
(available at party stores or most places where toys are sold).
If you are looking for ideas
beyond the premade construction favor boxes here are a few ideas:
Plastic
toolbox filled with small items from your local home improvement superstore:
mini tape measures, safety goggles, whistles, mini tools like pliers or
hammers, lumber pencils, etc.
Thermos filled with candy,
Cloth
carpenter pouches (usually under $1.00 at your home superstore)
filled with a juice box, package of cookies and a small toy.
The Cake
Make or buy a basic sheet cake with white frosting. Mix up a
small batch of frosting and dye it black or use a can of chocolate
frosting.
Use matchbox construction equipment (kids who love construction will
most likely have this on hand. If not it is available where toys are
sold). Find a dump truck, bulldozer, backhoe, cement mixer...anything
goes.
Frost windy roads across the cake with the dark frosting.
Place the construction trucks on the cake as if they are working.
The dumptruck could dump a load of jellybeans, the bulldozer could be
pushing a load of crushed oreo cookies. Use your imagination.
Tootsie Rolls make great logs, thin mints make perfect manhole covers.
