There is no specific cut way to harvest. Each plant, each flower
has a certain way that it can be harvested. Sometimes many
harvests can be had such as with lettuce. Here are some common
ideas for harvesting.
When the weather starts turning colder gardening comes to an end. At
least the production part. Winter preparation begins. There are still
chores and tasks left to do that the kids can help with. Prepare the
gardens for winter with these tasks.
Soil
is dirt that is suitable for growing stuff. It’s probably not going to hurt if
your kid calls it dirt. Unless they are going to give a lecture to some expert
gardeners, either way is fine.
Compost,
a pile of rotting material. You actually turn this stuff over and make something
useful? Yuck! You hear the kids say it and who could blame them? When someone
hears it defined as such it may turn off someone to using a compost pile.
The garden season is close to beginning. Have you made a list? If you have then
it’s a good start. But is everything you need to start the garden season on that
list? Here are some kid friendly garden supplies that should be on every kid
gardener’s list.
The seed catalogs come to gardeners all year long but in the middle of winter it
seems the catalogs come in droves! Sometimes there are so many seed catalogs you
aren’t sure what to do with all of them and how to exactly use them. But you can
use them all in one form or another. Here are some kid fun ideas to get you
started.
Planning a garden is not as tedious as it sounds. But there are four
characteristics of gardens to keep in mind, especially when planning a garden
for kids.
There
are basic things that need to be done in the garden including the kid’s garden.
Chores, weeding, planting and sowing are common events that take place in garden
preparation.
Kids
want results. They want results in their gardens and they normally want it fast.
When designing the garden for you and the kids, keep in mind the way your kids
will . . .
The Autumn season is upon us. The kids are in school. The leaves
are starting to fall. The harvest from the garden is plentiful
and bountiful. The days of Autumn are still warm and still can
be just as sunny as summer. But the nights are getting colder.
That usually signals the end of the growing season.
Now is the time to plant the second garden. The
second garden? Why do we need another garden? Don’t we have enough
with the first? The first garden hasn’t even finished growing yet.
When the soil isn’t exactly gold for the garden, rich in nutrients and minerals,
what can be done for the garden? Amendments can be added to the soil to make up
for some of this . . .
