Baby Shower Games

Baby Showers bring together a variety of people, traditionally, women close to the mother-to-be. Since a baby shower usually includes guests from two individual families as well as the friends and co-workers of each family, get-to-know-you games are a perfect ice breaker to put everyone at ease.  Here are a few easy to implement games that are sure to put your guests at ease.

Guess the Girth

Just as it sounds this game involves attempting to guess the girth of the mother-to-be’s expanding waist line. The hostess should check with the mother-to-be first to make sure that this is something that she would be comfortable doing. Though many women enjoy the thought of a baby inside their expanding waistline, some are self-consious.

Supplies:

Ribbon
Scissors

Pass around a spool of ribbon to each guest and ask each to cut a piece off to the length that they estimate the mother-to-be’s belly is around. When everyone has a piece of ribbon, the hostess should measure the mother’s belly and cut a piece of the ribbon to size. Whoever is closest wins.

Don’t Say “Baby”

Trying to attend a party that has a baby as the central theme and not being allowed to say the word baby is nearly impossible and the premise of this game.

Supplies:

Diaper pins

Each guest is given a diaper pin. (Clothespins work as well).  Hand out the diaper pins when the guests arrive and have them pin them to their clothing. Inform the guests that each time they hear someone use the word baby, they take the offender’s pin. When there is a lull in the party announce that the game has ended and tally up the pins. The person with the most wins.

Pass the Present

This game demonstrates how well the guests know the mother-to-be and can be quite funny.

Supplies:

Two wrapped gifts
10 or more prepared trivia questions

This trivia game involves starting off with two wrapped presents. The hostess will ask a trivia question about the mother-to-be. The first guest to blurt it out will receive a present. A second question is asked. The first guest to blurt out this answer will get the second gift. Now comes the fun part. A third question is asked. The first guest to blurt out the correct answer will be instructed to take either one of the gifts from one of the previous winners. This will continue until all of the questions have been asked. The last two guests to have the presents in their possession will get to keep them.

Here are a few example Trivia questions about the mother-to-be. The hostess will know the mother-to-be best and should be able to come up with plenty of fun questions.

What is the theme of the baby’s room?
What is the first choice for a girl’s name?
What is the mother-to-be’s strongest craving?
How much did the mother-to-be weigh at birth?
How did the mother and father-to-be meet?
Where did the mother and father-to-be go on their first date?

Baby Scategories

Create your own Scategories sheet with 10 baby questions.

Supplies

Game card
Pencils
Timer

If you are not familiar with the popular game Scategories, it is a word game that involves using one letter to answer a series of 10 questions while being timed.

Example: The letter all players are using is “P”. They must answer all of the questions on the sheet using the P as the first letter.

1. Name a city: Pittsburgh
2. Name something found in a bathroom: Plumber
3. Name an actor: Peter O’Toole

A game card can easily be made using a sheet of paper and making enough copies for each guest. Type your questions to the left and create three columns for each question. (Or use this pre-made printable form) Pass out one game card and one pencil per guest. Instruct them to keep their papers turned over until you tell them to start. Announce the letter that everyone must use, begin the timer and tell everyone to start. The person with the most answers filled in after three rounds wins.

Using familiar letters will make the game easier: S, T, R

1. A girl’s name
2. A boy’s name
3. A television show with kids in it
4. A pregnancy term
5. Something found in a doctor’s office
6. A baby gift
7. Something associated with newborns
8. A children’s book title
9. A children’s song title
