A Very Girly Night

Now that the kids are back to school and the summer sun has taken its toll on your skin, you deserve some pampering. What better way than to spend an evening with the girls? Get a gaggle of gals (like 12 including yourself) and pick up some chick flicks a la Meg Ryan and you have the foundation for A Very Girly Night.

Invitations

Materials

  • 6 sheets pink or pink-patterned 12 x 12 paper (each cut in half)

  • 1 apple-green fine point pen or marker

  • 1 yd pink grosgrain ribbon (cut into 12 3" strips)

  • 12 green medium circle stickers

  • 12 card-sized white or ivory envelopes

To make the invitations, fold the ends of each 6 x 12 paper strip into the middle to meet each other. The card should resemble a shutter. Handwrite in your prettiest script the party information on the inside middle. Finish the card by making a loose loop with a piece of ribbon and adhering to the closed card with a circle sticker. Place the invitations in envelopes and mail as usual.

Note: be sure to include a request for a dessert dish, dessert recipe, and shoe size with the RSVP.

Gift Bags

You will have to play a little Secret Santa to make this work. Each guest will prepare a take-home gift bag for another guest based on your assignment. After you have collected all RSVPs, call each guest to give them their gift-bag recipient.

Gift Bag Contents (each)

1 pair pretty flip-flops (remember that shoe size)

1 bottle hot pink or red toenail polish

1 small tube of nicely scented body lotion

dessert recipe

It would also be great to pack some of the leftover desserts in Ziploc bags for your guests to take home.

Menu

Shredded Salad with Grape Tomatoes, Pine Nuts, and Mozzarella

Lemon Chicken & Broccoli

Rice Pilaf

Complete the mood with some great female tunes from Cheryl Crow, Jewel, and Michelle Branch. Add some softly glowing candles and a few bunches of pretty flowers and you have all the ambiance you need.

When the guests arrive, have a dedicated spot for the gift bags and desserts. Don’t let your guests leave before taking their personalized gift bag. You made sure you got one too, right?
