Nothing is better after a delicious dinner, shared with family and friends, than a luscious dessert. Cakes of numerous varieties are often the typical after-meal dessert. In today’s fast-paced world, that often means purchasing a store-bought cake, especially for those that seem a bit more difficult than your typical cake. But why buy something that you can easily bake yourself? The results are certainly worth the effort in taste and the quality of the food. And there is the added benefit of knowing exactly what went in the cake.

Pound cake makes a wonderful base for decadent desserts. Pound cake is easier to make than you may have thought. You can make a cream-cheese variety or flavored varieties. Lemon pound cake is a favorite. Almond, orange and chocolate pound cakes are also delicious. You can also add nuts or bits of candied fruits. You can serve it plain, with whipped cream or iced. The choices are only limited to your creativity.
